On average, people unconsciously touch their faces 23 times per hour, yet many might not realize that this unconscious behavior could put them at risk of catching COVID-19 through mucous membranes – the mouth, nose, and eyes. That’s why germ-conscious, wearable product designers, developed Immutouch, a smartband that vibrates every time you touch your face.
The concept of Immutouch stemmed from another project used for compulsive hair pulling, skin picking, and nail-biting. Reminiscent of the old rubber band on the wrist method (that tries to reverse bad habits with a painful snap), this is instead a painless, high-tech way with an algorithm that tracks hand positions and gestures.

A user connects their band to the Immutouch app via Bluetooth and can calibrate their own movements. Based on the personalized calibrations, the band will vibrate on the user’s wrist when they touch their face. The goal is that over time the user will change this bad habit and prevent the spread of germs.
