This No-Lid, Foldable Paper Cup Could Help To Eliminate Plastic Lids

This cleverly-designed no-lid, foldable cup is called the Unocup, and it’s intended to reduce plastic waste by offering coffee and tea drinkers a convenient and eco-friendly way of fueling up on the go. Unocup’s sleek, well-tested folding design comes with its own built-in lid as an integrated top.

The creators of the Unocup wanted to create a product that is easy to fold, hold, drink from, and reopen. Its design was made to create less spillage and offer a more sturdy hold. The Unocup would eliminate the worry of a plastic lid popping off or the lid separating from the cup if held from the top.

While pollution from plastic straws has gotten a lot of buzz, plastic lids reportedly make up to eight times more of ocean waste than straws do. Unocup’s inventors note that out of an estimated 4 million coffee lids per day, NYC alone uses about 1.5 billion lids a year – enough to create a trail of lids 3.5X the length of Earth’s circumference.
