This Hands-Free Robotic Suit Allows Wheelchair Users To Stand Up and Walk

The genius robotic engineers of Rex Bionics, based in Auckland, New Zealand, have developed the life-changing Rex Robot. It’s a high-tech, hands-free robotic device for rehabilitation for patients with mobility impairments, including those with spinal cord injuries, stroke or other traumatic brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, and cerebral palsy.

Patients take part in “Rexercises,” where they are lifted from a sitting position into a robot-supported standing position. This maneuver allows patients to take part in a set of supported walking and stretching exercises – specifically designed by specialist physiotherapists. Rex Robots can accommodate different heights. Its leg-length can be easily adjusted and enable precise and accurate alignment to the user’s joints.

Extended periods of sitting can result in wheelchairs users developing several medical complications. Rex Robot’s rehabilitation could offer huge health benefits, including improved sleep, maintenance of joint range, and a reduction in spasm, pain, common abdominal problems, and prescription drug use.
