This Edible Beer Packaging Could Replace Plastic Six-Pack Rings And Save Sea Lives

This biodegradable beer six-pack ring could replace plastic packaging and help save marine lives.

Most of the plastic six-pack rings end up in the ocean and pose a serious threat to wildlife. SaltWater Brewery, a beer brand from Florida and advertising agency We Believers decided to tackle the issue.

Together, they developed an environmentally friendly packaging from wheat and barley waste, both byproducts of the beer-making process to make a statement for the entire beer industry to follow.

The plastic-free six-pack ring is harmless to sea wildlife including turtles and fish meaning instead of killing them as plastic does, it feeds them. They are also 100% biodegradable and compostable.

The company is working to release the packaging in 12 countries, including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Scotland, Argentina, South Africa, and Australia.
