This Dutch Tiny House Made out of Cardboard Can be Built in Just One Day

This is a Wikkelhouse by Amsterdam-based Fiction Factory, a sustainable, eco-friendly mini-house with a contemporary design made out of 24 layers of cardboard that’s securely glued together. Considered a “flexible concept,” the Wikkelhouse is customizable and can be built in just one day – and can include glass facades or just be a closed design.

The base of the Wikkelhouse is “virgin fiber paperboard,” which is made from Scandinavian trees. It’s wrapped around a giant mold and then an eco-friendly glue is added. This wrapping process creates effective heat insulation and solid construction in a sustainable way. Then each section is completed with a protective film and is covered with protective wooden panels.

The Wikkelhouse can be used for temporary/permanent housing and it’s about eight times more durable than traditional construction. It weighs only 1,3228lbs. (6,000 kilos or 500 kilos per section). Thus far, there over sixty Wikkelhouses that have found a destination – backyard, beachside, countryside, and even on a rooftop!
