This conceptual charging robot finds your electric vehicle in a parking space and then charges it for you.
The Mobile Charging Robot is Volkswagen’s vision into the future of increasing EV-friendly spaces by letting you charge your electric vehicle while you are away from home.

The robot is designed to ferry a mobile battery and plug it directly into your car, that you request through an app. Once your vehicle is fully charged, the robot returns the battery pack to the charging station.
Every energy storage device contains 25kWh of power and a 50 kW charging speed. Using V2X communication, the robot is able to open your car’s charging port and plug in the battery to the socket.
It’s still a concept, but it resolves the issue experienced with EV only parking spaces, where cars can block the parking bay for hours or non-electric cars hijacking the bay if they can’t find space elsewhere.
The robot drives autonomously and features cameras, sensors, and laser scanners. The parking area is mapped into the system so the robot can move freely around the car park while avoiding obstacles.
