This Autonomous Boat Can Help Us Fight Against Plastic Pollution In The Rivers

Meet “The Interceptor”, an autonomous boat that helps to pick up plastic waste in waterways.

According to The Ocean Cleanup, the creators of the project, 80% of the world’s river pollution is caused by 1000 most polluted rivers.

Powered 100% by solar energy, the smart boat can autonomously collect up to 50 tons of waste per day and can operate 24 hours a day.

Placed at strategic locations, the barrier of the boat directs floating waste. which is then picked up and dumped in one of the 6 dumpsters.

Once the dumpsters are full, the on-board computer sends a message to local operators to take out the dumpsters and empty them for recycling.

Currently, two of these machines are already in use in rivers in Indonesia and Malaysia.
