This is a scoop stretcher and a lightweight wheelchair combo that has three functions to help paramedics safely and effectively transport patients. Developed for Retter Medical by Studio Rotor, which is owned by Floris Wiegerinck, a hands-on industrial designer and engineer, its patented mechanism allows for a smooth transition in seconds.
When the innovative scoop stretcher-wheelchair is folded flat, it’s as thin as a regular scoop stretcher, which allows it to fit into existing ambulance compartments. Another functionality for EMTs is its use as a cart to wheel equipment to the emergency site. It also enables them to transport less injured patients back on wheelchair mode, or it can simply be used as a standard scoop stretcher.

Studio Rotor spoke with ambulance paramedics, healthcare managers, and experts to gauge the difficulties they encounter. They found that traditional manual stretchers in ambulances were increasingly being replaced electrical stretchers, which are significantly heavier to carry.
