These Recycled Cardboard Cocoons Boost Seedling Survival Rates in Arid Climates Up to 95%

This recycled cardboard cocoon is designed to support a seedling through its most crucial first year of growth without the need for external irrigation in some of the harshest climates on earth. Designed by Amsterdam-based Land Life Company, which specializes in high-tech nature restoration, this impressive cocoon provides water and shelter.

Additionally, Land Life’s cocoon also stimulates the seedling to produce a healthy and deep root structure as it taps into the sub-surface water supply. The culmination of this process results in independent, healthy trees. The cocoons are 100% biodegradable and they allow for a seedling survival of up to 95%.

Land Life’s ultimate goal is “to reforest the world’s degraded land at scale, bringing back nature where it cannot come back unaided.” With its state-of-the-art technologies, GPS-led drills and automated planting systems, and the help of a local crew, it can reforest hundreds of hectares in a single planting session fast and efficiently.
