These Bamboo Bikes Hand-Crafted In Uganda Are Strong, Light And Durable

These bamboo bikes hand-crafted in Uganda are strong, light and durable.

Boogaali Bikes transform thick, strong and smooth bamboo canes into bicycle frames. Bamboo is harvested very quickly and sustainably in Uganda and can be bent into oval shapes using a fabric made of bark, that also comes from a locally sourced tree called Matuba.

The bikes are very resistant and entirely handmade by Kasoma Noordin and his team, taking 7-10 days of craftsmanship in the Boogaali garage in Kampala for every bicycle. The company offers various models of the bamboo bikes that are suited for the city, racing, mountain or cargo.

The handlebars, saddle and pedals are imported, but overall the production of the CO2-neutral means of transport has a much lower footprint than the traditional materials and methods. A standard frame is available worldwide from 500 US dollars – depending on size and design.tyo
