Samsung TV Boxes Can Be Upcycled into Cat Houses, Furniture with Designs Accessible by Bar Code

Samsung Electronics is making recycling and upcycling trendier with the creative reuse of its massive cardboard TV boxes. As a part of a new eco-friendly initiative, Samsung created new “eco-packaging” made from corrugated cardboard that can be upcycled into cute cat houses, magazine racks, end tables, and other household items.

Customers can access the designs for these upcycled gems by scanning the TV box’s bar code, or by cutting along a dot matrix design. Samsung’s “eco-packaging” will be applied to its higher-end TVs, including The Serif, The Frame and The Sero.

Samsung also had a clever advertising approach to its upcycling initiative. Once assembled, the cardboard pieces reportedly appear to be designed to keep the Samsung branding front-and-center. So it’s a win-win – for Samsung and the earth – and your cat!

Samsung’s inventive “eco-packaging” concept was so impressive that it took home several CES 2020 Innovation Awards for promoting the efficient use of resources.
