Designed by Diligent Robotics, Moxi the Robot is helping clinical staff with non-patient-facing tasks. Built with a dexterous hand and arm gripper and a solid mobile base, Moxi gathers supplies and transports them to patient rooms, delivers lab samples, picks up items from a central supply, and removes soiled linen bags.
This innovative healthcare support robot also has navigation and obstacle-avoidance. In addition to being “human-like” (with a basic head and a body) it also has a face that visually communicates social cues and shows its intention before transitioning onto the next task.

Given that nurses reportedly spend up to 30% of their time on non-value-added tasks, Moxi allows the staff more time to interact with their patients. Overall, Moxi helps hospitals with their demanding constant-care workflow. Moxi’s contribution to clinical staff has been evident. After running trials at four hospitals Diligent Robotics officially had its full-time launch in October.
Moving forward, more Moxi robots will be joining the clinical staff at hospitals in the U.S. Each Moxi will be assigned specific tasks and responsibilities and will be tailored to fit each hospital’s needs.
